EMDR, Dissociation & Parts Work (The Meeting Place) - Self Paced

About this course

This program teaches EMDR trained therapists how to incorporate parts work into treating trauma with clients who have dissociation. This includes: assessment of dissociation; identification of parts; case conceptualization; interventions for working with dissociation; meeting place exercise; adjustments needed to EMDR; and integration of parts work with EMDR. Training includes detailed instruction on how to do the Meeting Place and two demonstrations. 

Learning Objectives

  • Explain the trauma response of dissociation within the framework of Polyvagal theory and describe four examples of dissociative responses within the eight phases of EMDR.
  • List the evidenced-based treatment of dissociation using parts work.
  • Identify clinical interventions to address dissociation and parts.
  • Explain the process of the “Meeting Place” exercise as an intervention for treating dissociation.
  • Observe live application of the "Meeting Place" exercise.
  • Identify areas of potential challenges when incorporating parts work with EMDR for dissociative clients.
  • Identify clinical interventions to implement during each phase of EMDR to address dissociation.
  • List strategies to use for therapist self care.

Target Audience

This educational activity is an intermediate level training for EMDR Therapists. All attendees must have completed Basic EMDR Training including all required consultation hours. This educational activity is intended for behavioral health professionals, including Psychologists, Social Workers, Counselors, and MFT's.

  • Jennifer Jenkins-Boitnott, LPC

    Jennifer Jenkins-Boitnott is a Licensed Professional Counselor and EMDRIA Consultant dedicated to providing elevated EMDR therapy and intensives at her private practice, Sea Glass, in Richmond, VA. Jennifer takes an integrative, person-centered approach to therapy, combining EMDR, Internal Family Systems (IFS), and an attachment-focused lens to provide customized care for adults navigating healing their complex trauma.

    In addition to her clinical work, Jennifer is the owner of Simply Rewire, where she focuses on offering consultation and training to EMDR therapists. Through Simply Rewire, she provides expert guidance to clinicians seeking to refine their skills, enhance their confidence, and deepen their understanding of EMDR therapy. Jennifer is passionate about mentoring the next generation of EMDR therapists, equipping them with the knowledge and tools to excel.

    With a strong foundation in trauma therapy, Jennifer combines her expertise in EMDR with a commitment to professional development and clinician support. Whether through direct client care, consultation, or training, she strives to advance the field of EMDR therapy by empowering both clients and therapists in their journey toward healing and professional mastery.

  • Melanie Stoudt, LPC

    Melanie is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) licensed in the state of Virginia. Melanie is an EMDR Certified Therapist, EMDR Consultant, and the Founder/Owner of Melanie M Stoudt LLC.

    Melanie has been in private practice since 2001 and an EMDR therapist since 2009. Demonstrating expertise in the field of complex trauma and dissociation, Melanie utilizes somatic techniques, parts work, Polyvagal theory, and a relational approach within her EMDR practice. Melanie incorporates her attuned, compassionate presence with an engaging, clear teaching style.

    Melanie provides EMDR Intensives to clients impacted by challenges, such as complex trauma, dissociation, anxiety, attachment wounds, loss, and recent traumatic events. Further, she provides EMDR consultation for therapists seeking EMDRIA Certification and Consultant status, as well as treatment approaches for complex cases, such as clients with dissociation and pre-verbal and developmental trauma.
